Is Cyprus the Right Move?

Why moving to Cyprus is the best choice for you and your family.
Picking the right place for your family or yourself to call home can be a very stressful experience with a lot of factors to consider. Depending on your nationality, background, and general preferences you could have quite a few countries to choose from. So which one is the right place to call home?

Due to the fact that the decision of which country you should move to, work, and raise your family in, can be very personal and individual. In this article, I will be presenting the argument why I believe Cyprus should be one of your top choices, also looking at where in Cyprus specifically will be the right fit for you and where you can find your dream home.

Firstly, let's have a brief history lesson! Cyprus has a long history dating back to ancient civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans. It later came under Byzantine, Crusader, and Ottoman rule before becoming a British colony in 1878. After gaining independence in 1960, intercommunal conflicts between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots led to a Turkish military invention in 1974, dividing the island into the Greek Cypriot-controlled south and the Turkish Cypriot-controlled north. This shouldn’t scare you off however as both sides of the island live peacefully amongst each other with both sides embracing the tourism industry.

Now let's move on to the benefits of life in Cyprus!

There are countless benefits to living and raising your family in Cyprus, however, in this article, I will be elaborating on what I believe are the 10 biggest benefits anyone can enjoy living in Cyprus regardless of which country they are coming from.

Safety

First and for most any country you choice to raise your family in most be extremely safe. Cyprus is considered one of the safest countries not only in Europe but in the world. Cyprus’s low crime rates and stable political environment, make it an appealing destination for families and retirees. STATS?

Cost of Living

While the cost of living in Cyprus can vary depending on location and lifestyle, it is generally lower than in many other European countries. Housing, utilities, and groceries are often more affordable, particularly outside of major cities.

Healthcare

Cyprus has a modern healthcare system with both public and private hospitals and clinics. The quality of healthcare is generally high, and many healthcare professionals speak English, making it easier for expatriates to access medical services.

Tax Benefits

Cyprus offers favourable tax conditions for residents, including low personal income tax rates, exemptions for certain types of income, and no inheritance tax. Additionally, it has a wide network of double taxation treaties, making it an attractive location for international businesses and investors. Climate

Sick of miserable cold weather nearly all year round? Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers making it an attractive destination for those seeking a warmer climate with plenty of sunshine throughout the year.

Quality of life

Cyprus offers a very high quality of life. The combination of a relaxed lifestyle, beautiful scenery, and numerous leisure activities with an extremely low crime rate makes it one of the best countries in Europe with regard to quality of life.

Education

Every city across the island has a strong education system, with a range of public and private schools offering both English and Greek-language instruction. Additionally, there are several reputable universities and colleges in Cyprus, making it an attractive destination for students seeking higher education.

Business Opportunities

Cyprus serves as a bridge between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, making it a strategic location for businesses looking to expand internationally. It offers a well-developed infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a favourable regulatory environment for companies.

But now the question is, Where exactly in Cyprus do I move to?

As discussed above Cyprus enjoys all the benefits of a small Mediterranean island, meaning that most cities and villages are close to both the beautiful mountains and the stunning beaches. One of the key differences between the cities is the level of development and infrastructure.

Let’s examine some cities and their differences

Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and is the biggest city by area and population on the island. Nicosia is a great choice for those looking to have the benefits of a hot Mediterranean island while still very much enjoying the city life. The city has a vibrant nightlife, restaurants, museums, and historical sites. However, living in Nicosia does come with a higher cost of living, limited green spaces, and can be considerably busier than the other cities on the island.

Larnaca

Larnaca offers the convenience of an international airport, beautiful beaches, and historical sites. But much like Nicosia there is a lack of green spaces and summers can be hotter in comparison to the other cities.

Limassol

Limassol has a better balance between city life and beach life than any other city in Cyprus. The city has become a major commercial and business hub with a cosmopolitan atmosphere while still maintaining its beautiful beaches, marina, and dynamic nightlife. Limassol is the perfect option for young hungry couples, investors and even to raise a family.

Paphos

Paphos is well known for its picturesque and award-winning beaches and coastal landscapes. It is also favored by expatriates and has a huge international community. Paphos is more for people with a late-back attitude to life who just want somewhere safe but beautiful to raise their family. I would consider Paphos the quietest and safest city on the island to raise a family.

Once you've narrowed down which city you want to live in now it's time to find you or your family the perfect home. In Cyprus, as in most countries, there are quite a large number of real estate agencies and developers on the island which can make finding the right property for you messy and stressful. Going through all the real estate agencies' and developers' websites can be a lot of effort and in most cases will leave you confused and frustrated. There are however 3 main platforms most companies and private sellers use: Facebook marketplace, Bazaraki, and BuySell Cyprus portal. I will provide now a brief comparison between these 3 platforms.

Facebook Marketplace

You probably already use and have a Facebook marketplace in your country and are aware of the pros and cons that come with that specific marketplace. Some noticeable cons are the unreliable search engine and the over-saturated and unorganised marketplace. Although you may have a lot of options of properties to go through, you will have trouble filtering and organising the listings you are interested in. In addition, you will struggle getting a timely response if you have an issue with a property listing or with the marketplace in general.

Bazaraki

Bazaraki is more organised and responsive in comparison with the Facebook marketplace. Much like the Facebook marketplace Bazaraki does not specialize in just properties. Bazaraki offers a wide range of new and second-hand products from shoes to cars all the way to properties. The platform is widely adopted across the island and does have quite a high level of traffic that comes mainly within Cyprus.

BuySell Real Estate

BuySell unlike the others only specializes in the purchase, renting, and selling of properties and does not have any other products on their platforms. Their website has a much higher traffic than the other mentioned platforms. The BuySell platform is not only used by just private owners looking to sell their homes but all developers, estate agencies and banks use their services to advertise and showcase their projects and different properties for auctions.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although you may have a number of other options to consider when it comes to moving you or your family to a new country I hope I have made a compelling enough argument for Cyprus to be in your top options. Cyprus can satisfy any type of person from any background from students, to investor all the way to families. Definitely worth a visit!
